Morning Reflection – March 29 2012

March 29, 2012

A Jesus Moment morning reflection.  Jesus, who for the joy set before Him, endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.  What was the joy set before Him?  What was it that motivated Him to endure the cross?  You.  You are the joy set before Him.  He came for you.  You were His mission.  You are His joy!  Since you are His joy, find your joy in Him.  Rejoice in the Lord always, I will say it again, rejoice!

I recently spoke to someone who has lost hope, who feels that since God has not answered her prayers for healing, God does not love her and God has turned from her. While she was talking, there was so much I wanted to tell her; especially that God loves her and hasn’t forgotten her and that He hears her prayers. And then, since I have been getting ready for Easter, I’ve been reading about the last week of Jesus earthly ministry and was reminded that He, knowing what was about to happen to Him asked God in fervent prayer to take that cup from him. The Son of Man was asking God the Father to not let Him go through events leading to the crucifixion. However, he ended that prayer in surrender to the Almighty and His plans. For even Jesus knew that His life here wasn’t about Him, but us. He lived and died for us, not for himself. He did it for us, for the glorious day when He will be our God and we will be His people. This life is not about me/us and if even Jesus wasn’t spared suffering shouldn’t I/we expect the same. For the joy set before Him he endured the cross.
